Clinical Interests: Dr. Kaplan is an internationally renowned expert in endocrine surgery who has practiced at the University of Chicago for more than 30 years. A specialist in the treatment of thyroid cancer and disease and hyperparathyroidism, he has performed about 2000 parathyroid operations including many minimally invasive parathyroidectomies, and at least 3000 thyroidectomies. He also manages the surgical treatment of adrenal tumors and islet cell tumors of the pancreas. There is also an excellent program for laparoscopic adrenalectomy at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Kaplan is a member of the following organizations: American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, American Surgical Association, Chicago Surgical Society, International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Society of University Surgeons.
